Bicolana’s journey to becoming a great chef begins through The Visa Center

Dubai—27-year old Ma

e, kicked off her 2020 with a whole lot of new beginnings as she started her culinary studies at Fans

hawe, School of Tourism, Hospitality, and Culinary Arts in Canada last month.

Mae, originally from Ligao, Albay, was working as an Oriental Pastry Maker in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi when she discovered The Visa Center through a Facebook post and eventually fulfilled her dream to be in Canada.

Long-time dream

“Gusto kong makapunta ng Canada,” shared Mae. Ever since little, she said she had always felt a somewhat beckoning towards living in Canada.

And who wouldn’t have such attraction to this country? Canada is one of the few countries who offer a great deal of benefits for permanent residents; including free education for children, free medical insurance, and social security and age pension.

Heeding to Canada’s call

Opportunity was coming her way as The Visa Center was scheduled to conduct a free assessment and consultation in Al Ain at the time that she sought for advice from The Visa Center’s Facebook page.

Fulfilling this travel dream to Canada for Mae officially started when she signed up with The Visa Center last Septe

mber.

Having a Bachelor’s Degree in Human and Resources Management and having fundamental background in cooking,

she decided to apply for a student visa in one of the exemplary culinary schools in Canada.

“In my experience, it will just take time if you did not comply with the required documents that the visa processing officer needed. In my case, my application took time because I waited for my first chosen school to have a vacant slot. But I lost the slot and so I decided to take culinary in another school,” said Mae.

After submitting all the required documents and finally enrolling to her second chosen school, it was arguable that Canada was really meant for this go-getter young lady.

“If you want to become a great chef, you have to work with great chefs. And that's exactly what I did,” shared Mae.

This aspiring chef wants to contribute to the innovation of her homeland’s food tourism through promoting culinary diversification.

She now enjoys every step of her journey and dreams to put up her own restaurant in the Philippines eventually. She shared that she is still adjusting with the food, culture, and weather but is very grateful to The Visa Center for helping her since the beginning.

Apart from having her parents as her inspiration to achieve her Canada dream, Mae also shared her life motto that made her make any present circumstance an opportunity to win: “The key to success is to focus on goals, not obstacles,”
